The Angel's Flight
A unique experience suspended among the Lucanian Dolomites: the Angel's Flight connects Pietrapertosa and Castelmezzano in a breathtaking ride between sky, woods and mountains. You can fly in both directions, to experience the thrill from two different perspectives.
Dirt roads and ridges around the village can be explored by quad bike or Vespa, through woods, clearings and viewpoints over the Lucanian Dolomites: a different way to cover, in a few hours, distances that on foot would take a whole day.
A protected route with steel cables, ladders and suspension bridges along the sheer walls of the Lucanian Dolomites: for those who want to earn, step by step, views you can't see from the trail.
As the first cold sets in, the village turns into a tasting trail: the streets of Pietrapertosa come alive with stalls of local specialities, from mushrooms to pulses, cured meats to traditional country desserts.
In the village's oldest quarter, which still bears the name of the Arabs who settled here in 838 AD, a historical re-enactment turns the alleys into an eastern village: incense, dances and spiced flavours intertwine with Lucanian traditions.
An ancient tree ritual that blends pagan folklore and devotion: an oak trunk, the Groom, and a holly tree, the Bride, are hauled into the village by oxen and joined together in the square in a symbolic wedding, amid climbers' acrobatics and popular festivity.
